Nearly the weekend!

Morning all,

Hope you've had a good week. It's been a funny one at the Purple Palace .. having attended Craftathon at the weekend there was the mammoth chore of restoring order and returning everything taken to Craftathon back to it's former home - not an easy task!! I haven't even had the chance to think about finishing off my projects yet though I WILL! A pal joined us for dinner on Wednesday so there was the task of clearing the dining room to add in to the mix. You can tell I've been playing catch up as I only had the chance to enter the LIM challenge yesterday!!

However, aside from the surrogates due to join us for dinner on Saturday evening I have nothing at all planned for this weekend - luxury!

Still, I can USUALLY find a small window of opportunity to craft and this card started life a little after 07:00 yesterday since hubby had set his alarm for stupid o'clock and had to be out of the house by 08:00 .... quite a rarity for either of us these days!

Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Morning readers,

Last weekend I was away at an annual craft retreat, this year in Abingdon, if you would like to see some pix of the fun we had then please do check out this link here, thanks peeps.

Recently acquired the Creative Expressions clear stamp set called Snowflake Kisses - LOVE IT! Have used 6 of the 10 images already, making it one of my better purchase as there are no images that I will NOT use, it's just a case of getting round to it. Expect to see more of this set ...

All I have to do now is learn how to use them! .... properly!

It's Craftathon weekend!

 Hi there,

Today's project got away from me a bit - it was my shoe box project for Craftathon and SHOULD be completable in 30 minutes ... but .. I made several dud decisions on colour; initially my rock star panel was white card with neon colours but it looked wrong when placed on the monolith ..... cue Joseph's Coat technique on the white card panel instead, ah - MUCH better IMHO! You can see how time just got away from me, still, I'm pretty pleased with the front - not sure the back is what I would call quite "finished" yet - still pondering that one but, it's fine, I can revisit it at some point. I just hope everyone else enjoyed the project too!

Front view
And a view which shows the base

Materials used:
  • One mini monolith
  • Gesso
  • Acetate (for the floating notes)
  • Music paper
  • Black and white card - die cut, for the sentiment panel across the top of my piece
  • Dylusions sprays: yellow, pink, turquoise
  • That's Crafty Dinky stencils (bricks around a hole and repeating brick stencil)
  • Modelling paste
  • Versamark ink and mica powders in pink, biscotti and copper
  • Inkadinkado Rock Star and ?? stamp sets
  • Versafine onyx black and Ranger Archival jet black inks
  • Distress Paint in picket fence and black soot, lime green and banana translucent acrylic paint
  • Distress Inks in picked raspberry, carved pumpkin, broken china, black soot along with versamark ink and clear embossing powder (for the Joseph's Coat Technique used on the shaped sentiment panel - see materials 2)
  • Kaisercraft music image (for base)
  • Treasure Gold amethyst, for the outer edge of the entire piece
  • Tissue paper and Stamplorations sentiment stamps

Materials 1
Materials 2
I'll be entering this for the following challenges:-
  1. LovetoCreate - challenge No. 6 - ANYTHING (mixed media) GOES
  2. More Mixed Media - March 5th challenge - ANYTHING GOES + OPTIONAL twist of green
  3. Mixed Media World - challenge No. 23 - ANYTHING (mixed media) GOES

The object of the exercise was to have an example I could show my fellow attendees. I have duplicate materials to hand in case they wish to produce something similar however, aside from the basic mini monolith, I expect there will be few similarities, it's half of the fun though.

Have a great weekend .. look out for pictures of craftathon early next week! I have a page devoted to Craftathon 2017 and most of the pix will appear there.

Woo Hoo! It's Craftathon weekend!

Morning readers,

Just a quick post to let you know that it's Craftathon this weekend and I shall be heading off to Abingdon and leaving hubby at home to self cater ... not that this is an issue for him since he does MOST of the cooking anyway.

I shall be joining friends Catherine, Cherry, Debbie and Jan at a small hall in Abingdon and we have hotel rooms room booked for tonight and tomorrow - let crafting commence! There WILL be photos once I'm back - I'm thinking probably Monday, in fairness!

Ready for the off, wonder what I've forgotten this year and how much of what I'm taking will remain unused!

Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Morning peeps,

Some of you may recall a sympathy card I made recently (see it here) and which I commented that I thought it would make a nice birthday card in a different colourway ... well, here it is. I made a few changes by adding some ribbon, making the sentiment a banner and blinging it up with some gemstones but it is, essentially, the same card which is why I shan't be entering any challenges with it today.

My card
The front and back of my card and front of my envelope
The inside of my card and the reverse of my envelope
Materials used:
  • White 12½ x 17½cm, 300gsm, card and matching sized envelope
  • Two white card panels cut to 11½ x 16½cm + snippet for sentiment
  • One navy card panel + snippet, cut to mat with 1.6mm border
  • Magenta foliage and Happy Little Stampers sentiment stamped using Versagine majestic blue ink
  • Narrow white grosgrain ribbon attached using Stix2 double sided tape
  • I cut the sentiment, banner style, before mounting on to navy card and attaching over my grosgrain ribbon using dimensional tape
  • Faux crystal gemstones (7) used to accent the foliage and banner

And, since it IS What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, here's a sneaky peek at my desk ..
